“G” Division RCMP will hold a memorial ceremony on Sunday to honour those lost in the line of duty.
The memorial takes place each year in cities across the country during the month of September and will take place in Yellowknife this weekend.
“Each year, across the country on the last Sunday of September, communities gather to honour and remember Police and Peace Officers who gave their lives in service to the people of Canada,” said NWT RCMP officers.
Over 900 officers are memorialized in Ottawa and each year the list grows.
“As of 2024, the names of 909 fallen officers are engraved on glass tablets which line the perimeter wall of Parliament Hill. Names from three historical police line-of-duty deaths will be added to the tablets in 2025,” said police.
In Yellowknife, a ceremony will take place at the G Division Cenotaph, in front of the Yellowknife Detachment on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
The public gathering will recognize those who have died in service of the North, and to support the loved ones left behind.
