Legislative Assembly releases report on sports funding

The Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories tabled the 2025-2026 Physical Activity, Sport and Recreation Fund Annual Report today.

The report highlights how investments from the fund have gone towards supporting healthy, active, and connected communities across the NWT, as well as the performance of the Western Canada Lottery Program.

In the year covered by the report, the fund invested more than $6 million into initiatives to further the goals of the NWT Active Living Framework.

This includes enhanced athlete and coach development, Indigenous sport and cultural programming, and participation in territorial and multisport events such as Team NT’s participation in the 2026 Arctic Winter Games.

More than 350 athletes, coaches, cultural performers, and mission staff from 17 communities across the NWT were sent as part of Team NT for the 2026 games.

The report also showed that the Western Canada Lottery Program generated $5.4 million in sales, a 3.3% decrease from the previous year.
