The Government of the Northwest Territories is working with the Town of Hay River to continue library services in the town.
The Hay River Centennial Library suspended operations on April 30, 2026, following the conclusion of the Hay River Library Committee that drastic change was needed to ensure the long-term future of the library.
With short-term staffing now secured, the library will be opening on June 9 with modified hours, Monday to Friday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
The library will also have limited services available, including access to library books, online library resources, and computers for internet use.
The GNWT will be working with the Town of Hay River to resume full library services but no information on when that will be is available. The GNWT says they will share updates as work progresses.
