Marine Transportation Services completes resupply season

The Government of the Northwest Territories has announced that Marine Transportation Services has completed their 2026 resupply season.

MTS delivered over 25 million litres of fuel and more than 5,500 revenue tonnes of cargo to communities in the North this season.

“Marine Transportation Services plays an important role in keeping northern communities supplied with the fuel and cargo they need,” said Minister Vince McKay.

Environmental conditions such as water levels continue to be an important factor in marine operations, with heavy pack ice in the Beaufort Sea and Amundsen Gulf delaying fuel deliveries to the Inuvialuit Settlement Region by three weeks.

MTS was able to adapt and work with hydrologists and their other partners to keep deliveries moving and keep communities and customers informed of changing schedules.

“This year’s results show the work that goes into planning and adapting to changing conditions throughout the sailing season,” said McKay.

This year’s season included community resupplies to the East Arm of Great Slave Lake, the Sahtu Region, and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.
