GNWT says Sambaa K’e Access Road on closure notice

GNWT’s Department of Infrastructure says Sambaa K’e Access Road has been placed on closure notice. On Tuesday afternoon, the department issued a 24 Hour Notice of Closure Caution at Sambaa K’e Access Road from 803 m southwest of km 4 to 817 m southwest of km 112. Officials said that the road “may close sooner with little to no notice.”

Crews first closed Sambaa K’e Access Road on Monday at about 3 p.m. On Tuesday morning, officials advised it would be open for travel from the hours of 10 p.m. to 10 a.m.

A representative with the department said crews restrict roads and sections to timed travel only to help preserve their longevity at the end of winter road season.

Officials advised travellers to head to Drive NWT for the latest updates on road conditions including seasonal road closures

This month a number of ice roads and winter roads are anticipated to close for the season including the Dettah Ice Road.

Last week, the Mackenzie Valley Winter Road: Wrigley – Délı̨nę Junction and the Edzo-Rae Ice Road saw planned seasonal closures.
