GNWT says Dettah ice road “closure may occur earlier” than Friday

The Northwest Territories department of Infrastructure has issued a closure caution for the Dettah Ice Road, for an anticipated Friday closure.

According to the message posted on Wednesday on social media and the Drive NWT website, the road “closure may occur earlier as conditions continue to deteriorate.”

Earlier this month the territorial Infrastructure department closed the Nahanni Butte, Wekweètì, Gamètì, Mackenzie Valley winter Roads and the Sambaa K’e Access Road as part of planned seasonal closures.

The Edzo-Rae Ice Road also saw a planned seasonal closure. The Tłı̨chǫ Public Works department advised the public to avoid travel on this route during the closure as seasonal conditions change.

Officials advised travellers to head to Drive NWT for the latest updates on road conditions including seasonal road closures.
