Potential hybrid Mackenzie Valley corridor in Dehcho moved 5 km

The territorial government says work is advancing on the Dehcho portion of the proposed Mackenzie Valley Highway

“This work marks an important milestone under the joint workplan established in September 2025,” read a message issued by the GNWT this morning.

Officials said that over the past months, Pehdzéh Kı̨́ First Nation and the GNWT have been examining “a potential hybrid corridor” through the Dehcho region. According to the announcement today, this included government leadership as well as community members.

“Two community-based workshops were held in Wrigley, bringing together the Chief and Council, community members, GNWT staff, and technical experts from both parties,” read Monday’s message.

According to the message update, a number of corridor options were reviewed.

“The Pehdzéh Kı̨́ First Nation and the GNWT have now reached consensus on a new preferred corridor located approximately five kilometres east of the previously proposed route.”

North Now has reached out to Pehdzéh Kı̨́ First Nation and the GNWT for more details and will share those insights when they become available.
