Police investigating sudden death of person found deceased in a burned cabin

Fort McPherson police are investigating the sudden, tragic death of person at a cabin “found to have been burned.”

Fort McPherson police announced today that they are currently investigating at the scene of the cabin fire where the person was found deceased.

RCMP officers first received a report yesterday in relation to the incident after a family member of the deceased became concerned of the victim’s whereabouts.

“On September 18th, Fort McPherson RCMP received a report that a person had travelled upriver to the cabin of a family member after not hearing from them for several days. Upon arriving at the cabin, it was found to have burned. Human remains were located inside the wreckage,” said police.

The identity of the victim has not been made public.

The RCMP reported that an investigation is continuing in partnership with the NT Coroner’s Service and Office of the Fire Marshall.

“Investigative support is being provided by G Division’s Forensic Identification Services and Major Crimes Unit,” added police.
