Housing NWT completes two new duplexes in Fort McPherson

Housing NWT has completed two new three-bedroom duplexes in Fort McPherson, adding four new social housing spaces to help meet housing needs in the community.

The units were prefabricated and moved to Fort McPherson for assembly onsite. This technique allowed the duplexes to be built quickly and efficiently while ensuring they’re built to withstand northern conditions.

“Modular construction helps us get housing to communities faster so we can deliver more homes for Northerners and make sure families in Fort McPherson have access to safe, comfortable housing that is built for northern conditions,” said Minister Lucy Kuptana.

These additions will increase the availability of family-sized social housing in the area and replace existing housing that has reached the end of its service lifespan.

These units are part of the GNWT’s investments in modular housing to help combat the housing crisis facing the territory. Modular construction can reduce delays, costs, and increase efficiency when bringing new housing to remote areas of the north.
