The Government of the Northwest Territories is advising travelers in the territory that all NWT ferry services will be ending their operations for the winter season soon.
Ferries in the NWT typically close between October 30 and November 3. The Mackenzie River ferry, Peel River ferry, Liard River ferry, and N’dulee ferry are all expected to close soon.
Residents are encouraged to transport any essential goods or supplies before ferries close, as winter roads and ice roads will likely not open until December or early January, depending on weather conditions.
Ferry services will remain available as long as possible but may need to close with little notice due to sudden changes in winter conditions. The GNWT says they will endeavor to provide at least 72 to 24 hours’ notice of ferry closures, but this may not be possible.
The latest information on ferry availability and other road conditions can be found on the DriveNWT website.
