The Government of the Northwest Territories and the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority are warning residents that medical travel accommodation in Yellowknife will be reduced in the coming months.
Availability will be reduced for the months of September and October, due to exceptionally high seasonal demand and limited lodging capacity.
Residents whose dental travel is arranged through a NTHSSA-managed medical travel services are advised to book private or alternative accommodations and may be asked to rebook non-urgent appointments if they are unable to secure alternative accommodations.
Residents in the Beaufort Delta Region may be able to book dental appointments in Whitehorse and are asked to speak to the Non-Insured Health Benefits or their private insurance provider.
The GNWT says this emergency measure will allow medical travel accommodations to be prioritized for urgent cases and other more serious medical care.
Travelling dental clinics are also expected to resume in several communities over the coming months, including Fort Simpson and Norman Wells, which will also help reduce the need for medical travel.
The GNWT says they understand these changes or disruptions may be frustrating or inconvenient and thank residents for their understanding and flexibility.
