The Speakers of the Legislative Assemblies of the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Canadian Regional Conference last week.
This agreement will formalize their collaboration on supporting strong parliamentary democracy in the North.
The MoU lays out a framework for the speakers to meet regularly to share knowledge and best practices, as well as collaborate on shared issues, reflecting their commitment to promoting safe, respectful, and effective legislative institutions.
The NWT Legislative Assembly says that the MoU, signed on Nunavut Day, shows the unique relationship between Canada’s three most northern legislative bodies and their unique commitments and responsibilities in the North.
