In a message issued this morning, Yellowknife police reported that on Saturday they received a tip that a suspect under multiple arrest warrants for an assault and drug-related offences was seen inside a building on Range Lake Road.
Once on site, officers said that “door knocks” at the entrance of the residence “went unanswered.”
After obtaining a special warrant called a Fenney warrant to enter the residence, the RCMP entered with assistance from the Emergency Response Team.
Upon entry, police said they located three individuals, but not the suspect in question. They also located a number of weapons.
“The RCMP found seven firearms in plain sight, which were subsequently seized,” said officers.
Then early this week, with the help of police dog services, officers located the suspect in another area of the city.
“Two days later, on Monday, June 29th, the Yellowknife RCMP, with assistance from the NT RCMP Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team, attended an apartment on Williams Avenue. A section of the avenue was blocked off for several hours during the operation,” said police.
RCMP said that when attempts to call out the suspect were unsuccessful, they obtained another Feeney warrant to enter the residence.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and is facing charges.
The 26-year-old is facing charges including resisting a peace officer and is being held in custody awaiting a court appearance regarding previous charges including assault, failure to attend court or surrender and possession for the purpose of trafficking,
