The City of Yellowknife is seeking public input to help modernize the city’s business license by-law. Local business owners, entrepreneurs, and community members are invited to share their opinions and feedback with the city.
Yellowknife’s current by-law regarding business licenses were adopted in 1988 and is outdated, no longer reflecting how businesses operate today. Changes in business modelling and technology mean that current requirements can be needlessly time-consuming or unclear.
“When regulations fall behind, they can limit effectiveness rather than provide support,” said Mayor Ben Hendriksen. “This engagement is about listening carefully, understanding the challenges businesses face, and making changes that strengthen confidence in how the city works with our business community.”
The city is seeking feedback on what works about the current by-laws, and what doesn’t. Information from stakeholders will help the city improve the licensing process, adjust administrative requirements, and reassess fees.
The public engagement period will run from January to March of this year. The public can make their opinions known via an online survey available here, or at an in-person session at 6:00 pm in City Hall, on February 18th.
