Man facing one year term following seizure of suspected cocaine in 2023

A man is facing a one-year term following a Fort Smith 2023 drug investigation which lead to the seizure of a quantity of suspected cocaine, scales and other drug paraphernalia.

In an announcement today, police said that charges stem back to suspected illegal substances and other items found as part of a search warrant conducted about two years ago.

“In October of 2023 while executing a search warrant at a residence in Fort Smith as part of an unrelated investigation, officers located a quantity of suspected cocaine, scales and other drug paraphernalia consistent with trafficking,” said officers.

A man from Fort Smith is now facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

“On September 26th, 2025, (the man) was sentenced to one year of custody, less time already served in remand. He will serve 18 months of probation after his release and will be prohibited from possessing firearms for a period of 10 years,” said officials.

Police also reported that the man has a number of other outstanding charges before the courts relating to another alleged incident in May of this year.
