Corriveau confirms first case of flu in NWT this winter

The first documented case of the flu (influenza A) of the year has been diagnosed in the Northwest Territories.

Chief Public Health Officer Government of the Northwest Territories Doctor Andre Corriveau confirmed the case, via Twitter.

“The first documented case of influenza A has been diagnosed in the NWT. Please wash your hands frequently and use these tips to avoid spreading germs: http://ow.ly/5qsr30h6rTc”

In related news, it was confirmed earlier today by the Alberta Health Services that there have been six flu related deaths already this winter in Calgary, three in the past week.

While Calgary is much larger than any community in the North, it remains important to get you and your family vaccinated this winter season.

The Government of the Northwest Territories provided many free vaccination clinics during the month of November. Unfortunately, the final clinic listed on the GNWT’s website was yesterday in Wekweètì.

We will have more on the documented NWT case in the coming hours.
