One person has been charged following Hay River RCMP’s operations yesterday.
At approximately 2:00 pm police received a report that a firearm had allegedly been pointed at a person in a residence on Pine Crescent. The victim was able to escape unharmed, but the suspect and several others remained inside.
Officers arrived at the scene and were able to establish a containment perimeter. Eight individuals were taken into custody as part of the operation. Seven who were not involved in the incident were released without charge.
Police were able to obtain a search warrant for the residence and seized a replica pistol, a small quantity of suspected crack-cocaine and a small quantity of suspected fentanyl, as well as over $4000 in cash and luxury goods believed by police to be the proceeds of crime.
The suspect was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody. Police believe this incident to be related to the illicit drug trade in Hay River. Their investigation remains ongoing.
