Parking meter rates to increase beginning May 1

The City of Yellowknife is reminding residents that the updated parking meter rates approved in December of last year will be coming into effect beginning on May 1, 2026.

Rates at one and two-hour meters will be doubling. Rates at nine-hour meters will increase by 50%.

These changes will apply to all meter types, to all meters across the city, and to payments made through the Passport Parking Canada app.

No changes will be made to the Parking Certificate Services available at City Hall.

Additionally, nickels will no longer be accepted at one and two-hour meters.

There will be a transitional period between May 1 and 14, where the meters will be reprogrammed throughout the city. During this time residents may encounter a mix of new and old pricing.

A breakdown of the new parking rates can be found at the City of Yellowknife’s website.
