Grants up to $10K will go to local community non-profits in 2026

Yellowknife city officials announced they are accepting applications for grants worth up to $10,000 for non-profit community groups.

The grants are being offered through the Community Grant Funding Program and Heritage Committee Grant Program.

City staff said the grants will go to local non-profit, community organizations that deliver events, projects, or programs that respond city council’s strategic objectives, as identified in 2023.

Key principles highlighted in their strategic directions report include Reconciliation, environmental and economic sustainability, housing, enhancing outreach and social support programs, enhancing affordable recreational programs and transportation.

“Projects must demonstrate a clear community impact and respond to local needs. Applications are reviewed by the Grant Review Committee in accordance with the Grant Funding Policy,” said city officials in an announcement issued yesterday.

North Now reached out to the city for more details on how the applications for grants are assessed.

The community grant program has three categories, including service grants, multi-year grants and sponsorship grants.

“The Heritage Committee Grant Program consists of 1 category, and it supports Yellowknife-based individuals, groups, partnerships, or business entities undertaking projects that celebrate, promote, and preserve Yellowknife’s heritage. The Heritage Committee may award grants up to $5,000 per proposal. Requests exceeding $5,000 require Council approval. The maximum award available per project is $10,000,” said city reps.

According to the announcement, applicants can apply for one grant per calendar year and there is a “final report requirement” for successful applications.

Program reps said all applications are required to be submitted online by Monday, Jan. 19 by 12:00 p.m. MT

City officials said anyone who would like more information can contact the Community Grant Program at communitygrants@yellowknife.ca or (867) 920-5685 or the Heritage Committee Grant Program at heritage@yellowknife.ca or (867) 920-5622
