Yellowknife announces Remembrance Day hours and events

The City of Yellowknife is inviting residents to come and honouring Canada’s veterans, fallen soldiers and all who have served the country this Remembrance Day.

The city’s annual Remembrance Day Parade will be held on November 11, from 9:55 am to 10:20 am, beginning at City Hall and travelling along 49 Street, continuing onto 51 Avenue, and concluding at 46 Street.

Roads will be closed for the parade beginning at 8:00 am and are expected to reopen by 11:00 am. Drivers are asked to allow for extra travel time and to follow all traffic signs.

The city will also be holding a Cenotaph Vigil on November 10 beginning at 6:00 pm, which will begin with a cadet contingent march beginning from the Yellowknife Joint Task Force North Headquarters parking lot and ending at the Yellowknife Cenotaph.

This will then be followed by a 10-minuite commemorative ceremony in front of the Cenotaph, and an overnight vigil that will continue until 8:00 am the following morning.

The city has also released the holiday hours their facilities will be operating on during Remembrance Day.

The Fieldhouse and Multiplex will be open from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the Visitor Information Centre will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and the ATCO Aquatic Centre will be open for lane swim from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm and public swim from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

City Hall, the Yellowknife Public Library, the Solid Waste Facility, and the Yellowknife Community Arena will all be closed. YKTransit, including YKFlex, will also not be operating.
