Experienced Peace Officer Program expands to the NWT

It has been announced that the RCMP’s Experienced Peace Officer Program will be expanding to the Northwest Territories.

This program recognizes the value that experienced peace officers bring to the RCMP, with their existing skills, knowledge, and experience.

The RCMP hopes to strengthen their teams by welcoming peace officers from all backgrounds, allowing them to move forward with a career in policing.

“By welcoming qualified peace officers into our ranks, we are enhancing our ability to serve Canadians and respond effectively to the evolving needs of the communities we serve,” said S/Sgt. Daina Basso.

Applications are open to individuals who have been serving as a firearm-trained peace officer at a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal agency for the past three years and who meet all the other requirements of a normal applicant.

The program was initially launched in British Columbia and the Yukon in July 2026, and is now expanding to the NWT, Alberta, and Nunavut.

More information about the program, including details on how to apply, can be found on the RCMP’s careers website.
