Yellowknife police seize cocaine and cash following downtown patrol

Yellowknife RCMP have charged two suspects following a proactive patrol in downtown Yellowknife earlier this week.

At 1:45 am on October 13, officers on patrol encountered two people walking in the downtown area. The officers started a conversation with them and asked them to identify themselves.

Police say one of the suspects provided a false name and was arrested and searched, revealing suspected cocaine and giving the officers grounds to search the other person, who was also reportedly carrying suspected cocaine.

In total, officers say that 225 grams of suspected cocaine and over $3,400 in Canadian currency were found on the two suspects.

Both suspects have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, with one suspect also being charged with resistance or wilful obstruction of a peace officer.

Both suspects have been released and are scheduled to appear in court next month.
