The Northwest Territories RCMP and the Government of the Northwest Territories have partnered to acquire a PC-24 twin-engine jet aircraft for the territory’s RCMP forces.
This new aircraft is a replacement for the C-GMPX, the RCMP’s previous aircraft which was damaged in an accident in 2023. Since then, the RCMP has relied on another aircraft, the C-FGMQ, as a temporary measure.
“The new PC-24 will enhance support for policing operations, emergency response, and community safety, while providing a safer and more reliable aircraft for operations across our vast territory,” said Minister Jay Macdonald.
The “G” Division Air Services provides ariel support for the RCMP, being able to transport RCMP members to provide operation support, aid in the tactical deployment of specialized units, and transport critical equipment.
The new plane’s capabilities make it better suited to a northern environment, with increased passenger capacity, increased safety on long distance flights, 40% greater speed, and a 26% larger range compared to the RCMP’s previous aircraft.
“Through hard work by the RCMP and outstanding support from our territorial government partner, I am proud to say that the Northwest Territories now has the most advanced air platform designed to enhance public safety throughout the NWT,” said Chief Superintendent Dyson Smith.
Onboarding of pilots for the “G” Division Air Service is ongoing. During the transition, both the new and old planes will be used by the RCMP until 2027.
