GNWT releases Yellowknife Airport Land Use Plan

The Government of the Northwest Territories has published the Yellowknife Airport Land Use Plan, part of the ongoing Yellowknife Airport Gateway Strategy.

The plan will support the future growth of the airport by identifying opportunities for aviation, commercial, and infrastructure development while also considering environmental and community factors.

“It provides a roadmap for future growth and investment that will help ensure the long-term sustainability of one of the Northwest Territories’ most important transportation hubs, while supporting connectivity and economic development across the territory,” said Minister Vince McKay.

The plan was developed with assistance from the YZF Economic Advisory Committee as well as other stakeholders, including the Department of National Defence, and identifies the west side terminal area as the preferred long-term development option space.

As the Yellowknife Airport Gateway Strategy advances into its next phase, the focus is shifting to implementation planning, investment readiness, and work to support future growth opportunities.

Work currently underway at the airport includes the construction of runway end safety areas and design planning for terminal washroom upgrades.
