Suspect charged with arson in Norman Wells

Norman Wells RCMP have arrested a suspect in connection to a suspicious fire which occurred at two vacant residences in the community.

At 1:30 am on August 31, police received reports of a fire at the two residences on Franklin Avenue.

Police responded alongside the Norman Wells Fire Department and found two log houses burning. Both residences were deemed to be a total loss.

Using information provided by the community, police were able to identify a suspect and arrest them.

“It was only due to the community coming forward with information that enabled us to form the grounds required for an arrest,” said Norman Wells RCMP Detachment Commander Cpl. Justin Helm.

The suspect has been charged with arson and trespassing and was released by the court on a release order.
