10 new single occupant homes, in the form of 5 modular duplexes, have arrived in Ulukhaktok as part of Housing NWT’s commitment to providing 98 new housing units across the NWT.
The units arrived in the community at the end of August after travelling more than 2000 km by barge from their manufacturer in Hay River.
“Delivering housing in the North takes planning, innovation and strong partnerships, and having these units arrive safely by barge is a perfect example of this work,” said Minister Lucy Kuptana.
With the units now arrived, work can begin to prepare the homes of occupants, including construction of foundations, the installation of the units, and hooking them up to utilities.
The units are expected to be ready for habitation this fall, providing 10 new single occupant homes for the community.
“Seeing these homes arrive on-site in Ulukhaktok is an important step toward providing more single housing options,” said Kuptana.
Housing NWT plans to deliver all 98 new homes by spring 2028, as part of a three-year, $150 million investment by the GNWT to increase the number of affordable homes in the territory.
