Update: The boaters have been located by CASARA and brought to Lutsel K’e.
Yellowknife RCMP say they are working to rescue two boaters who became stranded when travelling from Yellowknife to Lutsel K’e.
Police were notified on September 10 that two boaters who left Yellowknife on September 4 had failed to arrive at their destination and were overdue.
Yellowknife and Lutsel K’e RCMP initiated search and rescue operations with assistance from the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center, the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the community of Lutsel K’e.
Late on the evening of September 10, the boaters were located in the East Arm by a search flight. Supplies and a communication device were airdropped to the stranded boaters.
It has been confirmed that neither person is injured, and it is believed that the incident was caused by weather and mechanical issues.
Efforts are ongoing to return the two boaters to safety with flights being coordinated to reach their location.
The Yellowknife RCMP thanks their partners for their assistance and reminds the public to ensure they are adequately prepared before heading out on the water.
