Two new modular classrooms were opened at Colville Lake School yesterday, providing additional space for the school as the 2026-2027 school year draws closer.
The GNWT, in partnership with the Behdzi Ahda’ First Nation, the Sahtu District Education Council, and the Colville Lake District Education Authority added the modular classrooms, as well as a washroom module, to support the school’s population of 51 students while a new permanent school is designed.
“These modular school units strengthen learning opportunities now, while we continue to make good progress with Behdzi Ahda’ First Nation in the planning and construction of Colville Lake’s new, permanent school,” said Minister Caitlin Cleveland.
The current school building is a 250 square meter log building originally constructed in 1991, with a modular classroom added in 2006.
The new permeant building will be designed to support up to 75 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.
“While these modular units are an important interim solution, our community remains focused on the long-term goal of a new permanent school,” said Chief of Behdzi Ahda’ First Nation, Richard Kochon.
The modular classrooms were delivered to the community in March of this year, with site preparation work being done in 2025 and final completion in summer of 2026.
