With October’s municipal election fast approaching, the City of Yellowknife has announced that they will be holding a second session of their Candidate College.
This event, first run in June of this year, gives residents the opportunity to learn about municipal leadership and the challenges of serving in an elected office.
“Municipal elections provide an opportunity to better understand leadership in our community, the responsibilities of serving on Council, and the important role residents play in shaping local government, whether as informed voters or potential candidates,” said Acting City Manager Charlsey White.
Attendees will be able to ask questions and hear from elected officials and city administration about the realities of serving as Mayor or Councillor, including candidate eligibility, election rule, by-laws, decision making, and time commitments.
Registration for the event is available here but is not required to attend.
The Candidate College will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on September 1 at the Council Chamber in City Hall.
