City of Yellowknife announces fire ban

Due to ongoing hot and dry conditions, the City of Yellowknife has implemented a fire ban, effective today, June 29 at 12:00 pm.

This ban prohibits all open-air burning within city limits, including in approved fire pits. It does not apply to CSA-approved propane appliances used for cooking or heating, such as camp stoves or enclosed barbecues.

“By respecting the fire ban and practicing fire-safe habits, we can help protect our community and support the efforts underway across the Northwest Territories,” said Yellowknife Deputy Fire Chief Rob Andrews.

Residents are asked to use caution when using permitted outdoor appliances, and to respect the fire ban.

The fire ban will remain in effect until further notice.
