GNWT asking for feedback on bid to host 2035 Canada Winter Games

The Government of the Northwest Territories is asking residents to share their opinions on if the territory should submit a bid to host the 2035 Canada Winter Games.

A feasibility review of the idea was conducted recently, examining what hosting the games would involve, as well as the potential benefits for the territory.

The review outlines several positive outcomes for the territory from hosting the games, including strengthening tourism, an increase in economic activity, and the opportunity to showcase northern and Indigenous cultures on a national stage.

However, it also cautions that this undertaking would require a great deal of planning, investment, and coordination from across the territory. The games would be a complex multi-year undertaking, requiring a careful aligning of territorial priorities.

The GNWT wants residents to have their say on this matter, exploring what benefits residents are most excited about, and what concerns they may have about the potential of hosting the games.

No decision has been made yet on whether to pursue the bid or not. Feedback from residents will help the territory to come to a decision.

The survey can be found on the GNWT’s Have Your Say website. It is open now and will be available until June 25.
