Construction is underway on two new duplexes in Fort Simpson, an important milestone in the delivery of the territory’s modular housing project.
Fort Simpson is the first of nine communities that will receive 98 new modular housing units to replace exiting social housing infrastructure that has reached the end of its lifespan.
This marks an important milestone in the $150 million investment, as the project begins to shift from the planning phase to production.
The territory hopes to focus on construction, site development, and staging in the 2026/27 fiscal year, and shift again to completion and commissioning of the units in the next.
“Reaching this construction milestone shows how our modular housing rollout is moving from planning into real delivery, bringing new homes closer to completion for communities like Fort Simpson,” said Minister Lucy Kuptana.
The units in Fort Simpson have reportedly reached the ‘rough-in’ milestone, meaning important systems like plumbing and electricity have been installed. The territory plans for construction to be completed later this summer.
“We are moving plans into action, and the commitments of the 20th Legislative Assembly are quickly becoming more homes for Northerners,” said Kuptana.
