Aurora College staff are working to get systems back online after a cyber attack over the December break, according to an announcement issued Sunday. Jayne Murray, the college’s communications manager said that staff are working to “purge any malicious codes,” from the system.
“During the Christmas break, Aurora College’s network was the target of a cyber-attack, and staff have been working towards remediation and recovery of the system and to purge any malicious code. That work is expected to continue most of the week,” said Murray.
Officials reported there is no evidence of a data breach and no sign of ransomware at this time.
Aurora College officials announced that in the meantime they are suspending all scheduled classes at their campuses and online beginning today to Jan. 9.
Murray said the school’s website was not affected by the outage, but many of the school’s platforms from online courses to tuition payment portals are currently offline as staff work to rectify the cyber threat.
“Currently, access to all College servers, e-learning platforms, email and the self-service and student application portals are not available. It is expected they will be down for the rest of the week,” said Murray.
Faculty and staff plan to continue to work over the phone and in person with students.
“Although classes are suspended, Aurora College faculty and staff will be on site and will be available to students by phone and in person, beginning the morning of January 5, 2026. Information and updates for students and the public will be shared on the College’s website and social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram),” said Murray.
North Now reached out to college officials for more information and will share those details when they become available.
