Tłı̨chǫ Government and YKDFN to sign MOU on Arctic Security Corridor

The Tłı̨chǫ Government and the Yellowknives Dene First Nation will sign a Memorandum of Understanding today to advance the Arctic Economic and Security Corridor.

In an announcement issued on Friday, Grand Chief Jackson Lafferty of the Tłı̨chǫ Government said the partnership with YKDFN is about the communities “standing together, taking care of each other, and leading development in the North,” in a way that strengthens Arctic Sovereignty and economic opportunities while supporting the health of the environment including the caribou, which are critical to Dene culture and ways of life.

Chief Ernest Betsina of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation added that the agreement reflects a “shared vision for the North that is built on respect, cooperation and hope for future generations” creating new opportunities for the Dene while protecting the lands.
