Health authority introduces new callback request option for testing in YK area

The Health and Social Services Authority is introducing a new callback request form to make it easier for folks to book lab appointments, like blood tests, within and around the city of Yellowknife. The new feature does not allow for booking certain tests like x-rays, but the new feature makes it possible to opt for a call back by filling in the form, instead of having to make an appointment in-person or calling and waiting on hold.

This new alternative to booking a medical test is designed to reduce wait times. The authority announced today the new measure should help to make services more accessible. According to the health authority, the new option will help residents to book their appointments even during high-demand periods.

In the city of Yellowknife, lab tests (requested for patients by doctors and nurse practitioners) like blood tests, can be done at Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) by appointment only and at the Yellowknife Primary Care Clinic (YPCC) by walk-in same-day service only.

Anyone who would like to call in or book an appointment in-person, can still access booking options in person and over the phone, to book an appointment for lab services at Stanton Territorial Hospital.

  • By phone: (867) 767-9300 ext. 46673 between 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM Monday – Friday, excluding holidays
  • In-person: 548 Byrne Road (You can also walk in and make an appointment for STH at the YPCC location)

The authority said that folks are asked to be at their lab appointment 10 minutes before their appointment time.

The health authority announcement today for same-day lab services at the Yellowknife Primary Care Clinic, provided this information about the same-day appointments:

In-person: 4915 48 Street- the authority explained that same-day time slots at this location are available on a first-come, first-served basis with doors open at 8:00 a.m. and same-day time slots begin being assigned at 8:10 a.m. Anyone who would like access this option, can go to the YPCC Laboratory registration desk. If spots are available, the authority said lab clients will receive a timeslot and can return at that time
.
If all same-day slots are filled, lab clients can choose to be added to a waitlist and stay in the waiting room. The authority said there is no guarantee lab clients will be seen that day.
