Construction is underway on two new Housing NWT duplexes at the K’áhsho Got’ı̨nę Trades Centre in Fort Good Hope.
Celebrating its grand opening in late August, the centre supports year-round construction and local trades capacity, with five carpentry apprentices currently working at the centre to gain experience on the job.
“The K’áhsho Got’ı̨nę Trades Centre is not only building homes, its building skills, jobs, and opportunities that are felt across the territory,” said Minister Lucy Kuptana.
This project will provide four new social housing units for Tulita. The first duplex is expected to be delivered this winter and be ready for habitation by spring 2027, with the other being delivered next year.
These duplexes are part of the 10 new homes planned for Tulita as part of a project to provide 98 new single occupant homes for communities across the territory by 2028.
With most applicants on the social housing waitlist in Tulita seeking one-bedroom units, these new homes will help meet the community’s needs.
“This is the kind of community-led approach that will help build better housing solutions across the NWT,” said Kuptana.
