One new fire has been discovered in the South Slave Region, according to the latest report by NWT Fire.
This lightning-caused fire is 20km north of Fort Smith and one hectare in size. Rain over the weekend has helped to keep the fire at a manageable size, and it is currently being monitored.
The fire south of Fort Resolution is being actioned by six fire crews and four helicopters under the direction of an Incident Management Team. Rainfall has lowered the fire activity and helped crews to secure 40% of the fire perimeter.
In the Dehcho Region, smoke from the fire east of Poplar River may be visible from Highway 7 and could cause closures along the road. Crews are deploying structure protection and preparing to manage the site over the summer.
At the fire near Fort Simpson, crews continue to deploy structure protection along the northern perimeter of the fire as well as near km 427 of the highway. The fire is not considered a threat to Fort Simpson at this time.
In the North Slave, crews at the fire north of Behchokǫ̀ are continuing to look for opportunities to complete the ignition operation begun earlier this month. Rainfall in the area may help to manage the fire’s growth.
No fires of note have been seen in the Sahtu or Beaufort Delta Regions.
