53-year old motorcyclist medevac’d to Edmonton following Ingraham Trail accident

A 53-year old driver has been transported to an Edmonton hospital following a motorcycle accident on the Ingraham Trail on Monday. It is unclear what the extent of the driver’s injuries are as Yellowknife police continue the investigation.

Local RCMP officers in the city responded to the accident on the evening of July 13 at 6:09 p.m.

Police were joined by other emergency response personnel, including Yellowknife Emergency Services and the GNWT’s Department of Infrastructure. They reported that the accident involved a single motorcycle on the Ingraham Trail.

According to information gathered, investigators allege that the motorcyclist was travelling east on the Ingraham Trail (Hwy 4). Police suspect the driver attempted to pass a vehicle in an unsafe location and veered left into the ditch to avoid a collision with oncoming traffic.

RCMP officers reported that impairment and road conditions are not believed to be factors in the accident.

The name of the motorcyclist was not released and it is unclear what the extent of their injuries are at this time.

“The driver of the motorcycle, a 53-year-old male, was transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital, and later medevac’d to Edmonton for treatment of injuries.”

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
