Tłı̨chǫ Government announces $1.2 million in child welfare capacity building funding

The Tłı̨chǫ Government has announced that it will receive $1.2 million in funding for Child Welfare Capacity Building.

This funding will support the development of child and family services in Tłı̨chǫ communities and help the Tłı̨chǫ Government to expand its child welfare programming and plan future child welfare services that reflect Tłı̨chǫ values and priorities.

“This funding will help strengthen our programs and ensure that our communities have the tools and support needed to provide culturally grounded and effective child and family services,” said Tłı̨chǫ Grand Chief Jackson Lafferty.

The Tłı̨chǫ Government says the inspiration for this initiative draws from the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, which has received similar funding, showing that Indigenous-led governance and capacity building can create meaningful and lasting improvements in child welfare.

“The well-being of our children and families is at the heart of Tłı̨chǫ governance,” said Chief Lafferty.
