Thawcon 2026 being held next weekend

Ptarmicon, a Yellowknife based gaming group, is holding their annual Thawcon event on March 28, from 11am to 5pm, at the Yellowknife Curling Club.

There will be free to play board games from Ptarmicon’s library, as well as video game setups that anyone can use.

“We are really open to letting our organization be flexible to what people want to try. That way we can grow with our community instead of putting them in a box,” said the Ptarmicon Board in a statement.

“[Thawcon is] about creating an open space for nerds to get together and game.”

There will be structured games as well, such as D&D, Pathfinder and indie role-playing game Electronic Bastionland, as well as Twilight Imperium, an epic space opera board game.

Tournaments will be held during the convention as well, including Magic the Gathering Commander available all day, where the more you play, the more prizes you can earn. There will also be a youth-organized and run Mario Kart tournament.

Doors close to families at 5pm, but from 7pm to 11pm there will be an adults only After Dark event, with liquor available and nerdy trivia.

Admission for adults is $10, and children under 12 can enter for free.
