New fire caused by abandoned campfire located in Sahtu Region

According to the latest reports from NWT Fire, one new fire has been identified in the Sahtu Region with no new fires being detected in the other regions of the territory.

Wildfire VQ079 is located 85 km southwest of Wrigley Lake and was caused by a campfire which was left abandoned. It is currently sized at one hectare and is being monitored by crews.

Crews are working at the Fort Simpson wildfire to extinguish hotspots that were identified by a drone scan earlier this week, with direct suppression efforts continuing on the fire’s northeastern flank.

At the Wrigley wildfire crews are working to reinforce the firebreak while the fire remains five km north of the community. Structure protection efforts continue, and the high-volume water suppression system has been demobilized. Rain is expected later this week in the area.

In the South Slave Region, crews are making progress on securing the northern and southern flanks of wildfire SS046, south of Fort Resolution and Highway 6. The fire is not believed to be a threat to the community or highway at this time.

In the North Slave, crews are monitoring wildfire ZF037, east of Gordon Lake and currently measured at 50,500 hectares. Structure protection has been deployed for values in the area.

NWT Fire says that as of their latest report there are no fires of note in the Beaufort Delta Region.
