The Klewi Complex wildfire in Wood Buffalo Park has been updated from ‘out of control’ to ‘being held’, meaning that the fire is not likely to spread beyond the existing or predetermined boundaries.
Parks Canada thanks the exceptional work of the incident response personnel which allowed almost 90% of the 52,000 hectare fire’s perimeter or be contained or controlled.
Crews will continue their work to establish full control over the complex with assistance from bucketing helicopters and nightly infrared scans by drones to identify hotspots.
The Notice to Airmen for the space surrounding the fire remains in effect.
