Joint Task Force (North) has announced that they will be conducting Prospector Challenge 2026 on Tuesday, June 16, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm in Yellowknife.
This annual event will bring together members from the Canadian Armed Forces, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Canadian Coast Guard to participate in a multi-discipline endurance challenge.
They will work in teams of two to complete an 18 km course consisting of physically and mentally demanding elements based on operations in northern conditions, including ruck marching, paddling, portaging, and load-carrying.
Joint Task Force (North) says that this event helps build physical fitness, resilience, and teamwork which are essential for maintaining their operational readiness in the North.
By simulating some of the obstacles that may be encountered during domestic operations, such as sovereignty patrols, disaster response, and search and rescue, will ensure Joint Task Force (North) is able to function in remote or austere environments.
No roads will be closed for the event, but there may be traffic delays, especially near the entrance to the Niven Subdivision, where teams will portage across the roadway.
