The southeastern portions of the NWT are expected to receive the warmest temperatures today, with a cold front in the Dehcho and North Slave Regions contributing to storm activity.
In the North Slave, heavy rains are anticipated over the weekend, which may assist crews with the management of the fire 13 km north of Behchokǫ̀. Crews began an ignition operation on this fire last week but were unable to complete it due to weather conditions. They continue to look for an opportunity to complete the ignition.
In the Dehcho Region, crews are deploying sprinklers and prepping sites at the fire east of Poplar River while they prepare to manage the fire over the remainder of the fire season. This fire may cause closures along Highway 7 and smoke will be visible from the road.
At the fire north of N’Dullee Crossing, crews are also focusing on structure protection and preparing the site for long-term management. Smoke from this fire may be visible from Highway 1.
In the South Slave, the fire south of Fort Resolution has grown to over 2700 hectares. Air Tankers, 7 fire crews, and 4 helicopters are actioning the fire with the assistance of an Incident Management Team.
