City officials are looking for the public’s input on a project that aims to expand Yellowknife’s raw water supply.
According to the message from city officials, the project will “modernize and expand” the water system. By expanding the system, city officials also want to expand the reliability of the long term water supply. With water infrastructure aging, an adequate water supply will be critical as the city grows.
The water supply project will look at upgrades and replacements for pumphouses across the city.
“The Raw Water Supply Upgrade project generally includes the full replacement and expansion of Pumphouse No. 1; modernization and equipment upgrades at Pumphouse No. 2; and the upgrade of the existing raw water intake screen and installation of a second new raw water intake at Pumphouse No. 1 so the intake system is redundant and meets regulatory requirements for fish protection and water withdrawal,” said officials.
To complete the project, regulatory permits must be submitted by the city, including a Type A Water Licence Amendment and Type A Land Use Permit.
The Open House is meant to give the general public a chance to learn more about the project, ask questions and share feedback.
“This session will be held in person. At the Open House, attendees can ask questions to City and AECOM technical staff, fill out a comment form, and share knowledge related to Yellowknife Bay and the Yellowknife River,” said officials.
The Open House is scheduled to take place on April 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Explorer Hotel in the Katimavik A Room.
