Yellowknife Women’s Society holding fundraiser walk this weekend

The Yellowknife Women’s Society is holding a fundraiser walk this weekend as part of the annual Coldest Night of the Year fundraising campaign.

Since 2011, The Coldest Night of the Year movement has worked with groups across the country to raise money to help support local charities that serve people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.

The Yellowknife Women’s Society was established in 1990 and has worked since to develop and implement programs to support the health, social, cultural, and economic autonomy of women and their families, as well as establishing support networks.

On February 28, the Yellowknife Women’s Society will be hosting a charity walk with two routes, one two kms and the other five kms.

Checking for participants will begin at four pm, and the walks will start at five. Rest stops with snacks and other refreshments will be along the routes, as well as proper signage to guide participants.

Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Following the walk, there will be a light meal served at six pm before the event wraps up at seven.

Fundraising walkers who raise more than $150 ($75 if under 18) will receive a CNOY toque while supplies last.

Registration for fundraisers, as well as detailed information on the routes, can be found here.
